APRE has conducted a Life Cycle Assessment of the recycled gold we handle (recycled gold) as a pioneering effort in the domestic precious metals industry.
■APREs gold has an environmental impact of 1/200th
Comparison of CO2 emissions between general mined gold and recycled gold
APRE conducted a comparative assessment in the LCA, referring to a previous study that found an environmental impact equivalent to approximately 16.0 tons-CO2 per kilogram of new gold (gold originating from mining) produced.
As a result, it was proven that the environmental impact of the recycled gold we handle is approximately 1/200 of that of new gold, and that the use of recycled gold can make a significant contribution to addressing environmental issues.
■Effects of LCA Implementation
In the economic activities of a company, it is always necessary to keep track of CO2 emission figures.
Since many of the trading companies and manufacturers to which APRE sells its products have overseas operations and are active in CO2-related initiatives, we believe that our LCA implementation will contribute to the enhancement of our business partners’ business value.

■What is Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)?
LCA is an approach to quantitatively visualize the environmental impact of all processes from the extraction of raw materials necessary for a product or service to the use or disposal of the product.
LCA is a method for quantitatively assessing the environmental impact of a product or service throughout its life cycle. ISO standards for LCA have been developed as part of international standards for environmental management by ISO, and following this trend, Japanese companies are also incorporating LCA in their CSR reports and other documents.
